The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is organising a mass dance ‘flash mob’ in the Hoan Kiem Lake area on the eve of Lunar New Year.

First volunteers practising the dance

The department is calling for the participation of volunteers for the event at giaothua.com. The dance will be held along Dinh Tien Hoang Street (from Ba Kieu Temple stage and Ly Thai To Flower Garden) between 10pm-midnight on February 9, 2013. The activity is expected to attract thousands of participants, including roughly 500 volunteers who will perform the dance.

Although flash mobs are normally characterised by spontaneous mass meet-ups of strangers to participate in public events, the organisers have left nothing to chance, organising rehearsals.

Fireworks will conclude the event.

The department previously organised a community dance performance entitled "Hay Cung Hat Vang" (Let’s Sing Aloud) at My Dinh Stadium to mark Hanoi Liberation Day on October 10 last year. The show featured 10,000 people and was the largest event of its kind so far in Vietnam.
