The festival will feature a wide range of cultural, sporting and tourism promotion activities across the city.
Its opening ceremony will take place on May 8 at the city’s new political-administrative centre in the Bac Song Cam urban area, with organisers expecting 10,000 to 12,000 spectators.
The launch event will include a large-scale artistic performance featuring Vietnamese singers including My Tam, Trong Tan and Quoc Thien, followed by a high-altitude fireworks display.

City authorities said the festival programme includes 64 events, ranging from art performances and exhibitions to sporting competitions and tourism promotion activities.
Highlights include the Fourth Expanded Haiphong Puppet Festival, an exhibition on the city’s 71 years of development, the Red Flamboyant Golf Tournament, an international wine festival and food and cultural experience spaces.
Haiphong will also launch or inaugurate 15 key projects during the festival period, covering infrastructure, industrial and socio-economic development.
Officials said preparations for the festival were on schedule, with the city aiming to use the annual event to promote tourism and showcase local cultural and historical heritage.
