The 30 part series that began shooting in June 2009 was produced by Vietnam Feature Film Studio 1. It was expected to be completed and screened in October 2010 in celebration of the capital’s 1,000th anniversary.
With an investment of VND 57 billion (USD2.6 million) sourced from the Hanoi People’s Committee and overseen by famous directors-Dang Tat Binh and Dao Duy Phuc, the show was expected to draw a large audience. However the series has failed to be screened and has hence been dropped from the Golden Kite Awards ceremony. Speaking with Dtinews reporters, head of the jury board for the TV series category at the award, Nguyen Huu Phan, said: “Based on the regulations of the Vietnam Cinema Association, to be selected to the Golden Kite, a film must have been previewed and planned for screening by a television station. Therefore, the series failed to meet our regulations.”
The main actor, Hua Vi Van, revealed that it would be screened this April but according to the Vietnam Cinema Association, no television station has so far planned to show the series.
The two directors also told Dtinews that they were only responsible for the production, while Hanoi People’s Committee would work with VTV on scheduling.
Veteran director Luu Trong Ninh has condemned the un-broadcasted series as a waste of public money.
