Representatives of Dantri Newspaper, together with local authorities, visited on February 12 the home of Ngan Thao Vy, 30, in Xuan Du Commune, Thanh Hoa Province, to present a symbolic cheque worth VND 375,740,849 (USD 14,730). The full amount has been transferred to her personal bank account.

The donations were raised after the newspaper published an article detailing the family’s circumstances. In addition, the Thien Tam Fund provided direct support of VND 40 million (USD 1,570), bringing the total assistance to more than VND 415 million (USD 16,300).
Vy’s family has faced severe hardship as both of her children suffer from serious illnesses. Her seven-year-old daughter, Luu Tram Anh, has leukaemia, while her two-year-old son, Luu Quang Dat, has cerebral palsy. The prolonged cost of treatment left the family financially exhausted, prompting Vy to seek help through the newspaper.
Expressing her gratitude, Vy thanked readers and benefactors for their compassion and support.
“The money has given me the means to continue treatment for my two children,” she said. “Tram Anh has completed two rounds of radiotherapy and is responding well. Her health is gradually improving. Dat, after regular therapy sessions, has less stiffness in his limbs and fewer spasms. He is now able to crawl.”
Vy is currently staying at home to care for the children, while her husband, Luu Van Thuc, 33, left for South Korea in January to work overseas in an effort to stabilise the family’s finances.

Luong Hong Sy, chairman of the Xuan Du commune People’s Committee, expressed appreciation for the timely support from Dantri readers.
“When the family was at a loss over how to cover treatment costs for the two children, the support from readers brought renewed hope,” he said. “This is not only material assistance but also a precious source of encouragement, helping the family find strength to overcome this difficult period.”
