A Dantri reporter, working with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Lac Son Commune, visited the family and presented a symbolic board showing donations totalling VND 129,708,231.
The money was contributed by readers through Dantri’s charity account after the newspaper published the family’s story. The full amount had already been transferred to the woman’s personal account to help cover medical treatment and living expenses.
Bui Thi Thai, 37, has also received direct support from individual donors. The Thien Tam Fund donated VND 20 million and is providing monthly support of VND 1 million for her daughter Quach Thu Lam, 9, who has a congenital disability.
Local authorities said Thai’s household is classified as poor and among the most difficult cases in the area. Her husband died in a drowning accident while working, leaving her to care for two young daughters. One of them, Lam, has Down syndrome, delayed intellectual development and poor health. Thai later gave birth to a son in 2023.
The family’s situation worsened in September 2025 when Thai was injured while fishing for a living, suffering a serious knee injury that required surgery and prolonged treatment. After leaving hospital, she returned to work on crutches despite ongoing pain.
Thai said she plans to use most of the donated money to build a sturdier house, providing a safer home for her children.

She said the funds would also support Lam’s medical care and help her invest in livestock farming to create a more stable livelihood.
