Little boy struggles against death

A couple from Lam Dong Province is calling for financial support to help cover treatment for their son who was seriously injured in a traffic accident.

Dinh Van Sa suffers severe injuries

Dinh Van Sa, a fourth grader at Hoa Bac 2 Primary School, was riding his bicycle and heading home when he grazed by a motorbike on February 19. Due to the collision he crashed into a side of a running truck, suffered severe injuries and went into a coma for a week.

Doctors at Children's Hospital 2 in HCM City said his shoulder blades, arm, femur and pelvis had broken. His bladder was damaged and he has pleural effusion along with head injuries.

Dinh Van Phuoc, Sa's father, said they were shocked when the school called and told them about the accident. They spent everything they had and borrowed from neighbours for Sa's treatment. Sa's mother, Pham Thi Nhan, was persuaded to go home as she has heart illness and fainted when seeing her son's injuries for the first time.

Dr. Vo Quoc Bao said, "We've carried out several operations to save him. He still can't breathe normally. The most worrying thing is traumatic brain injury. He fell into coma again."

Sa's family earns a living from their coffee plants and find odd jobs to provide for two children. But the treatment cost them over VND230m (USD10,500), excluding living costs in HCM City.

Tran Ngoc Phat, chairman of Hoa Bac Commune's People's Committee, said, "We supported them with the money from the Poor People Fund and called for help from the community. But we can only help them so much."
