Dantri readers donate USD 14,000 to family in medical crisis

More than USD 14,000 has been donated by Dantri readers to a Hanoi family whose two children suffer from thalassaemia, helping cover urgent treatment costs.

Dantri's representatives presented on February 23, a symbolic cheque worth VND 355.6 million (about USD 14,000), to Nguyen Thi Vy, 53, from Chuong Duong Commune, Hanoi.

The sum was donated by readers through Dantri and had previously been transferred in full to Vy’s bank account to support treatment for her children.

Thanks to the efforts of medical staff and timely support from readers, her son Tran Duc Luan, 19, received treatment at the right time and has now been discharged from hospital. He is recovering at home and undergoing rehabilitation exercises.

Her daughter, Tran Thi Nhu, 32, who has thalassaemia, continues to receive regular treatment and blood transfusions.

Vy said she was deeply moved by the support. “Our family can only express our heartfelt thanks. Without Dantri, readers from near and far, and doctors at Viet Duc University Hospital, our children would not have had the chance to receive timely treatment,” she said.

The family had previously fallen into severe hardship as both children were diagnosed with thalassaemia and required long-term transfusions and care. A sudden accident left Luan with multiple serious injuries, including trauma to the cervical spine, skull and jaw, as well as open fractures to both bones in his left lower leg. Treatment costs quickly exceeded the family’s means.

Timely donations from Dantri readers enabled the family to continue with the prescribed treatment plan.

Nguyen Van Dat, a doctor in the General Trauma Surgery Department at Viet Duc University Hospital, said that after intensive treatment, Luan’s condition had stabilised and he was fit for discharge. The family had been instructed on home-based rehabilitation and scheduled follow-up visits.

“We greatly appreciate the companionship of Dantri readers, which has given the patient the opportunity to receive timely treatment,” Dat said.
