On Wednesday, many Hanoians queued up from morning to evening to buy gold early, fearing that prices would rise.
The price of SJC-branded gold has surged considerably, exceeding historical highs. The selling price reached VND91 million (USD3,589) per tael, up VND900,000 per tael against the closing price on Tuesday.
A shop even arranged metal barriers to regulate the flow of customers. On Tuesday alone, the shop served up to 350 customers. By 9 am on Wednesday, the shop was packed.
Several gold stores have arranged outdoor booths to manage the crowd where people can request calligraphy while waiting their turn.
Games for children are also held while waiting for their relatives to buy gold.
Despite high gold prices, large crowds have still purchased gold at the beginning of the year.
