The VND27.50 trillion (USD1.10 billion) expressway project, which runs 111 km through Can Tho, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau, is considered a key route in the Mekong Delta region.
The project, which is a section of the North-South Expressway, started in January 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
According to project investor, the My Thuan Management Board under the Ministry of Transport, 58 percent of the construction work has been completed so far. Local authorities have handed over 100 percent of the main route's land and 99 percent of the connecting roads.
"Over 2,800 workers and engineers and nearly 1,000 pieces of equipment and machinery are working at the construction site through the Tet holiday to try to meet the deadline," the investor said.
In December last year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the project's construction site in Hau Giang Province and requested that relevant ministries, agencies, and localities accelerate the work to complete it by 2025.
Vietnam expects to have 3,000km of expressways by the end of 2025, connecting the northern border province of Cao Bang with the southernmost province of Ca Mau.
