The Transport Ministry is tasked with studying and developing a detailed plan for the Van Phong Airport Project in the southern coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

The new airport is expected to be built in Khanh Hoa's Van Ninh District which lies some 65 km north of Nha Trang City, 108 km north of Cam Ranh International Airport, and about 48 km south of Tuy Hoa Airport in the neighbouring province of Phu Yen.
