The clip, literally translated as 'We sing about Truong Sa', was made in September 2011 and broadcast in an exchange programme about songs about home islands.

The song 'Noi dao xa' was sung by 1,000 people, including students, workers and famous singers and has gained thousands of views on the social network site go.vn.

In the context of the current sea dispute, the clip has once again gained currency among young people, many of whom have posted it on their Facebook pages and shared it on other online forums.

One indicative comment read, "Young Vietnamese people will always be proud of where they come from and willing to defend national sovereignty."

This trend seems to be part of a wider one, in which young Vietnamese post information about nationalist activities and ceremonies to pay tribute to past martyrs.

During the remembrance week for the martyrs, in July, thousands of young people came together to show their gratitude towards the heroes of the past, visit families of war martyrs and tidy up old graves.
