Nguyen Thanh An, Deputy Director of Thuan Thao JSC, said the company had sold up to two-thirds of its seats to HCM City before the holiday, and what seats were left sold within hours on February 24, as were additional seats made available to meet huge demand.

Stranded travellers have had to resort to finding rides with passenger cars headed for HCM City, with many spots on National Highway 1A crowded with people trying to get transportation.

Taking advantage of the ticket shortage, many transportation companies are charging high fees, with some intending travellers at the Huong An T-Junction in Que Phu Commune, Que Son District, Quang Nam Province, paying up to VND1.2m for a ride, compared with the official VND350-420,000 rate.
