According to the Vung Tau City People's Committee, the charges for parking, especially places near Vung Tau Beach, has received support from local people and tourists.

The fees will be applied from 6 am until midnight every day. Cars of below 16 seats and trucks weighing 2.50 tonnes will pay VND15,000 while coaches of between 16-25 seats and trucks weighing between 2.50-3.5 tonnes pay VND20,000.

Coaches of over 25 seats and trucks weighing over 3.50 tonnes are banned from parking in the area.

Vice chairman of Vung Tau City People's Committee, Vu Hong Thuan, said that parking fee collecting will be expanded to 23 streets in the city.

"The move is part of a project for road and sidewalk management," the official said. "The fees collected will be used as employee salaries and spent on road maintenance and equipment."

The charges don't apply to vehicles for official and public use or those that are parked for short durations, for purposes like picking up students, weddings and funerals, he added.
