Authorities of Vung Tau City in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have recommended closing Vung Tau Book Street after five years.

Authorities of Vung Tau City in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have recommended closing Vung Tau Book Street after five years.

The proposal has been sent to the provincial people’s committee.

 

Vung Tau Book Street

Vung Tau City Chairman Hoang Vu Thanh said that the book street had opened in Lunar New Year 2018, covering nearly 1,000 square metres with bookstalls and refreshment kiosks.

But the street has attracted fewer visitors recently. Some book stalls have turned into selling drinks.

Meanwhile, Ngoi Sao Bien Saigon Ltd. Co., the investor of the book street still owed Vung Tau City VND2.5 billion in rent.

Thanh said that if the investor wanted to continue operating the street, it would have to seek permission from the local authorities and pay rent.
