Vietravel Airlines will receive three more aircraft in the third quarter of this year, raising its fleet to six.

Launched in late 2020, Vietravel Airlines carried out more than 11,600 flights with a total of 2.5 million passengers by the end of the first quarter of this year, with a flight occupancy rate of 93.7 percent.

Vietravel Airlines currently offer flights on six domestic routes linking Hanoi, HCM City and the tourist destinations of Danang, Phu Quoc and Quy Nhon and two international routes connecting Hanoi, HCM City and Bangkok.

Meanwhile, budget carrier VietJet has approved a plan to increase its fleet to 87 aeroplanes this year. It has also set a goal to operate 139,513 flights carrying 25.7 million passengers this year, bringing in a post-tax profit of VND1 trillion (USD42.55 million).

Last year, VietJet operated wide-body Airbus A330 aeroplanes to serve long air routes such as Kazakhstan, India and Australia.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the world aviation sector is recovering, leading to higher demand. Amid the situation, the agency has proposed to the Ministry of Transport to allow airlines to expand their fleets.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines now has 225 aeroplanes compared to 234 before January 2020.

The domestic aviation market is expected to serve 45.5 million passengers this year.
