According to the General Customer Department, in May, the country spent USD109 million on importing 4,886 cars.

Vietnam’s car import drops in June
In June, the majority of cars imported into Vietnam came from Thailand, China and Indonesia with 1,092; 716 and 638 cars respectively, representing up to 87% of the total.
In the month, 2,082 were cars of nine seats and below, down 48.9% against May.
In the first half of this year, Vietnam imported 40, 288 completely built cars, down 45.9% against the same period of last year. Of the figure, cars of nine seats and less than were 30,605, down 44.2 on-year.
Truck imports also saw an on-year decline of 56.6% with just 7,381.
Some car agents in Hanoi said that the major cause for the fall is the bad impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, many car producers in foreign countries suspended their operations, resulting in a supply shortage.
Experts said that the 50% reduction of registration fees for locally-assembled cars was another reason for the fall in car imports.
