Vietnam to pump US$1.5 billion into coastal road system

Prime Minsiter Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a plan to build a coastal road spanning over 3,000 kilometres.

Prime Minsiter Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a plan to build a coastal road spanning over 3,000 kilometres.

The road will stretch from Nui Do-Mui Ngoc port in the northeast to the Ha Tien border gate in the south. The project is split into two phases, the first, expected to last until 2020, will involve upgrading and building nearly 900 kilometres of coastal roads. The second, set to begin in 2021, will see the remaining stretches of road built.

The project is designed to connect transportation modes as well as improving national security and readiness for natural disasters.

Phase 1 (from now to 2020) will mainly focus on lines at key economic areas and 15 economic zones around coastal land, including: Van Don (Quang Ninh Province), Dinh Vu-Cat Hai (Hai Phong City), Nghi Son (Thanh Hoa Province), Dong Nam (Nghe An Province), Vung Ang (Ha Tinh Province), Hon La (Quang Binh Province) , Chan May – Lang Co (Thua Thien Hue City), Chu Lai (Quang Nam Province), Dung Quat (Quang Ngai Province), Nho Hoi (Binh Dinh Province), Nam Phu Yen (Phu Yen Province) , Van Phong (Khanh Hoa Province), Phu Quoc (Kien Giang Province), Dinh An (Tra Vinh Province) and Nam Can (Ca Mau Province).
