Vietnam reported an additional 15,220 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday with over half of the cases were found in the community, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 15,203 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Ca Mau (1,011), HCM City (991), Tay Ninh (931), Binh Phuoc (907), and Hanoi (837). There were 17 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 146 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 9,351 infections found in the community.
As of Tuesday evening, 1,438,207 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (489,165), Binh Duong (287,908), Dong Nai (92,911), Tay Ninh (40,546), and Long An (39,392).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,443,648. The country now stands 32nd among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 14, an additional 4,524 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,060,436.
On Tuesday evening, a further 252 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 28,333. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (64), An Giang (28), Dong Nai (27), Binh Duong (18), Tay Ninh (16), Bac Lieu (12), Dong Thap (10), Tien Giang (10), Kien Giang (9), Long An (8 ), Soc Trang (7), Binh Thuan (6), Hanoi (6), Tra Vinh (5), Vinh Long (4), Ca Mau (4), Vinh Phuc (3), Khanh Hoa (3), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (3), Ben Tre (3), Binh Phuoc (2), Binh Dinh (1), Gia Lai (1), Ninh Thuan (1), and Hau Giang (1).
Vietnam on December 13 administered 748,830 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 133.63 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 58.61 million people having received two doses.
