Vietnam ranks third in tourism rebound in Asia

Vietnam ranks third in terms of tourism rebound in the first six months of 2010, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

Vietnam ranks third in terms of tourism rebound in the first six months of 2010, according to the August Interim Update of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The report said that Asia in particular is experiencing a dynamic rebound, with strong results from Sri Lanka (+49%), Japan (+36%), Vietnam (+35%), Myanmar (+35%), and Hong Kong (China).

As in previous occasions, such as the Asian financial and economic crisis (1997-1998), the SARS outbreak (2003), and the tsunami (2004), Asia has once again shown a strong capacity for recovery.

Asia and the Pacific (+14%) and the Middle East (+20%), where results were already positive in the second half of 2009, continue to lead growth in the first half of 2010, with the majority of destinations in both regions posting double digit growth rates.

It is reported that in the first half of 2010, Vietnam welcomed over 2.5 million international guests, up 32.6% against the same period last year.

During the reviewed period, around 1.6 million guests arrived in Vietnam for tourism and convalescence, over 502,000 for working and about 289,000 for visiting relatives, up 40.3% 44.6%, and 2.9% respectively compared to the same period last year.
