Vietnam continued to see a rising number of Covid-19 infections with an additional 2,501 new cases confirmed on Tuesday, up 594 cases from yesterday's figure, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, the national caseload has so far increased to nearly 11.55 million. The country now stands 13th among 230 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On April 25, an additional 819 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 10.60 million. Currently, 145 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.
On Tuesday evening, one more death related to Covid-19 was announced, the second case in the past four months. The country's total fatalities stayed at over 43,000, accounting for 0.40 percent of total infections.
Vietnam is witnessing a reoccurrence of Covid-19 cases over the past weeks with some new Omicron sub-variants including XBB.1.9.1, XBB.1.16, and XBB.1.16.1 detected. According to experts, the actual figure may be higher as many people undergo a self-test and self-treatment at home.
The Ministry of Health has asked localities nation-wide to tighten preventive measures to curb the spreading of the virus, including speeding up vaccination.
