The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported an additional 194,815 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 4.77 million.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (32,650), Nghe An (15,292), Bac Ninh (10,731), Phu Tho (4,882), and Son La (4,368). The northern province of Bac Ninh today also added 32,380 new infections respectively to the national tally.
As of Tuesday evening, 4,769,355 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country last April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (554,540), Hanoi (460,001), Binh Duong (318,635), Bac Ninh (194,520), and Quang Ninh (131,222).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 4,776,873. The country now stands 21st among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On March 8, an additional 70,902 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,789,342.
On Tuesday evening, a further 78 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,977. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hai Duong (7), Bac Giang (6), Binh Dinh (6), Danang (4), Ha Giang (4), Hanoi (4), Hoa Binh (4), Nam Dinh (4), and Quang Ninh (4).
Vietnam on March 7 administered 314,067 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 198.25 million.
