Police took Doan Tien Dung, Vice General Manager of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), into custody in the afternoon of February 2 for suspicion of accepting a bribe.
A high-ranking police official in Hanoi confirmed the arrest with DTiNews. Another high-ranking official from BIDV has also confirmed the news.
According to our sources, Dung was arrested for the investigation of alleged obtaining of a bribe worth nearly VND 1 billion ($54,000) from a company that tried to receive a loan with a low interest rate from BIDV.
At around 15:00 on February 2, a DTiNews reporter saw Doan Tien Dung entering BIDV’s headquarters in Vincom Tower on Ba Trieu and Doan Tran Nghiep streets. He was accompanied by two police officers. Dung had his arms crossed on his chest, apparently trying to hide the fact that his hands were cuffed. At 17:15, he was escorted out of the building and into a vehicle.
