According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold front is expected to strengthen on May 25, further affecting the North Central region and parts of the northwestern highlands.

Due to this weather pattern, temperatures in northern Vietnam will drop starting May 24. The lowest temperatures during this cold spell are expected to range between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius, with some high-altitude areas dipping below 20 degrees. Daytime highs are forecast to stay between 25 and 28 degrees.

The arrival of the cold air, combined with a compressed low-pressure trough, led to moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the northern region on May 23. Rainfall measured between 7 am and 3 pm exceeded 100 millimetres in several locations, including Dien Bien (128.6mm), Son La (106.6mm), Hanoi (112.2mm), and Hai Duong (106.2mm).

The forecast for May 24 indicates continued moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in northern Vietnam, with localized downpours. Rainfall in the Viet Bac and Northeast regions is expected to range from 40 to 100 mm, with some areas receiving more than 200 mm. In the Northwest and Red River Delta, rainfall will typically range from 30 to 70 mm, with isolated areas exceeding 120 mm.

Heavy rainfall is expected to ease in northern Vietnam starting the night of May 24. From May 25, the intensity of rain in the North Central region is also forecast to decline.
