Uber posed with USD3.1 million in tax arrears
According to the HCM City Department of Taxation, the department’s inspection of Uber’s accounts in September this year showed inaccurate financial reports, leading to the firm’s insufficient tax payments. The department decided to collect Uber’s tax arrears. However, Uber petitioned the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance, disputing the tax arrears and claiming they had fulfilled their tax duties based on the Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement.
The Ministry of Finance recently said Uber’s tax payments did not fall under the tax agreement signed between the Netherlands and Vietnam.
The HCM City Department of Taxation has requested Uber to pay USD3.1 million within 10 days. If the firm fails to ensure the deadline, the department will consider measures to collect this in line with the law.
As of June this year, Uber earned total revenues of around VND3 trillion (USD136.3 million), but it has paid just VND77 billion (USD3.5 million) in taxes.
