Le Minh Duc, head of Forest Protection Unit XVI, said the turtles would be transferred to the Biodiversity Conservation and Ecotourism Centre under Chu Mom Ray National Park for care before being released into their natural habitat.

The two turtles were handed over on May 11 by Le Anh Duy, a student at Duy Tan High School, after he discovered them near a stream close to the Dak Bla River.
Initial inspections found the animals in stable condition. They included a yellow-headed tortoise (Indotestudo elongata) weighing 1.4 kilogrammes and an Asian giant pond turtle (Heosemys annandalii) weighing 1.5 kilogrammes.
Both species are classified as rare and endangered forest wildlife under Vietnam’s regulations.
Authorities praised the student’s actions, saying the voluntary handover reflected growing public awareness of wildlife protection.
