The first bomb was found in the Son River, about 150 metres from a tourist boat terminal in Phong Nha Commune. It was discovered by a family operating a homestay for visitors in the area, who alerted local authorities.

A MAG explosive ordnance disposal team was deployed to the site and safely recovered the bomb for destruction.
The second bomb was discovered at an earth quarry in Bo Trach Commune by an excavator operator during construction work.
MAG said the bomb had a blast radius of around one kilometre. The team secured and removed the device before transporting it for disposal.
According to local authorities, the quarry employs around 10 workers and is located near the Ho Chi Minh Highway and an interchange on the North-South Expressway. The timely operation helped ensure the safety of nearby residents, workers and road users.
MAG said it had destroyed 2,155 items of unexploded ordnance reported by local communities since the beginning of 2025, including 12 large bombs.
The organisation said the figures highlighted the important role of local residents in identifying and reporting dangerous wartime explosives, helping reduce risks to communities.
