A 31-year-old Russian man and a 46-year-old French man were granted certificates of merit by the city’s Lien Chieu District on May 2.
At around 10:30 on the morning of May 1, local residents found smoke from Bao Hoang Guest House on Kinh Duong Vuong Street. When the fire broke out, the 12-floor guest house was closed for repairs, so no guests were inside, except for the five-year-old and eight-year-old children of the owners who were stuck inside.

Following the screams for help from local people, the two foreigners who were staying in a house opposite to the Bao Hoang guest house, rushed to the terrace of the next door house, and then climbed into the guest house to rescue the two victims.
The Russian broke the door to avoid being choked by the smoke but injured his hand.
Firefighters then came to the scene to tackle the blaze and the Russian was hospitalised for emergency treatment as he fell unconsciousness.
According to the initial investigation, a short-circuit in an air-conditioning unit on the third floor may be the cause of the fire.
The two tourists were presented with certificates of merit and VND2 million (USD87) award for their heroic efforts.
Huynh Duc Tho, chairman of Danang People’s Committee sent a letter to them to thank for their action.
