The central region of Vietnam has been forecasted to continue facing heavy downpours this weekend due to the impact of Storm Sonca.

The central region of Vietnam has been forecasted to continue facing heavy downpours this weekend due to the impact of Storm Sonca.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, this morning, October 15, Storm Sonca weakened into a tropical low-pressure front, bringing about heavy rain to many central localities.

Danang's inundation on Friday


Localities from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai have been experiencing torrential downpours. Danang City in particular saw serious flooding on midnight Friday. Bach Ma area in Thua Thien-Hue City also witnessed rainfall of up to 570mm and Ly Son Island in Quang Ngai had violent winds.

This weekend, lots of areas in the central region would continue witnessing high rainfall, including Ha Tinh, Thua Thien-Hue, Danang, the north of Quang Nam Province, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.

The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum would have a rainfall of over 100mm.

Students in Quang Nam have been allowed to stay at home on Saturday to ensure safety during heavy downpours.

Meanwhile, in Thua Thien-Hue, up to 11,200 houses have been flooded by 0.3-0.8 metres.
