Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh on March 28 handily defeated Indonesian Jonatan Christieat 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the 5th Ciputra Hanoi Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Challenge 2014.

The rivalry between Tien Minh and the 17-year-old prodigy from Indonesia was one of the most highly anticipated match-ups of the ongoing tourney in the Vietnam capital city of Hanoi.

Minh confidently entered the quarter-final round coming off a smashing victory over Japanese opponent Yugo Kobayashi (World No288).

Rated 148th in the world, Christieat succumbed to Minh 21-23 in the first set. Thanks to home field advantage and an outstanding performance, Minh easily went on to outscore his opponent by six points in the second set with a final score of 21-15.

With this latest trophy, Minh got a berth in the semi-finals where he will face the winner of an upcoming match between Chia-Hsin Wan of Taiwan (No4 seed) and Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi of Indonesia (No12 seed).

The semi-final round takes place at Cau Giay competition hall in Hanoi on March 29, while the finals set for March 30.
