Thunderstorms expected to rise in HCM City, southern Vietnam

Thunderstorms are expected to become more frequent across HCM City and southern Vietnam in the coming days, with forecasters warning of lightning, strong winds and localised flooding.

According to the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Centre, the region is expected to see cloudy skies, intermittent sunshine and scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons and evenings.

Temperatures are forecast to range between 25-28 degrees Celsius and 32-35 degrees Celcius, with some areas exceeding 35 degrees Celcius.

Rain and thunderstorms affected several parts of HCM City on June 8, with rainfall generally ranging from 5-20 mm and exceeding 30 mm in some locations.

Forecasters said rainfall would become more widespread and frequent from June 12, with precipitation levels expected to increase compared with earlier this month.

Authorities warned residents to remain alert for severe weather, including lightning, whirlwinds, heavy downpours and strong gusts.

Heavy rain during peak travel hours could also lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt traffic.
