Nguyen Ngoc My, 30, was detained at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport while he was going to escape overseas on the morning of October 25. Lam Phuc Loi, 23, was arrested the same day as he was fleeing from Long An Province's border to Cambodia. And Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, 22 was also detained while hiding in HCM City's Tan Phu District.
Police also seized some evidence and around VND3.50 billion which the trio robberred from the bank.
According to a report from the police, Nguyen Ngoc My, who was the mastermind of the scheme, and Lam Phuc Loi drove a motorbike to the Nhi Xuan Transaction Office of Sacombank in Hoc Mon District and used guns to threaten the guards, employees and customers there. Loi then forced the bank employees to put the money into his bag and then they quickly left on the motorbike.
The two drove for some two kilometres and then set the motorbike, clothes and bags on fire. Tuyen then came to get her accomplices in a car.
The same afternoon, the three called a taxi to get to the neighbouring province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau where they split the money and ran on their own.
At the police station, My, Loi, and Tuyen said they were all in debt, and they got to know each other through Facebook and made the bank robbery plan.
My and Loi ordered two makeshift guns online and a motorbike, which was painted black to be used for the act. Tuyen rented a car to assist her accomplices during the robbery and the escape.
After stealing the money, My got VND1.50 billion, Loi was divided VND1.30 billion, and Tuyen VND1 billion.
