According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, northern Vietnam and the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri saw temperatures of 35-37C on June 6, exceeding 37C in some places.
Hue, Danang and eastern areas stretching from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak recorded severe heat, with temperatures of 36-38C and higher in some locations.
On June 7, northern Vietnam is forecast to see temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celcius, with some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celcius. The hottest period is expected between 11 am and 4 pm.
The heat is expected to continue across Thanh Hoa and Quang Tri on June 7-8, with temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celcius and locally above 39 degrees Celcius.
Hue, Danang and eastern parts of the region from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak are forecast to experience the most intense conditions, with temperatures reaching 37-39 degrees Celcius and surpassing 40 degrees Celicus in some areas.
Forecasters said the heatwave would end in northern Vietnam from June 9, while hot weather in central regions is expected to gradually ease.
