Several storms expected to affect Vietnam through year-end

Around 6.5 storms and tropical depressions are forecast in the East Sea between July and September, with nearly three expected to affect Vietnam.

The weather agency said storm activity would remain near the seasonal average, with about 6.5 storms and tropical depressions forecast in the East Sea between July and September, nearly three of which are expected to affect Vietnam.

Average temperatures nationwide are forecast to be 0.5-1.5 degrees Celsius above normal from July to September.

From October to December, storm activity in the East Sea and impacts on Vietnam are expected to be below average. The long-term average for the period is around 4.5 storms in the East Sea, with about 1.9 affecting the country.

Heatwaves are expected to persist through September, particularly in northern Vietnam, the Thanh Hoa-Hue region and the south-central coast, with the number of hot days forecast to exceed both the long-term average and levels recorded in the same period of 2025.

Hot weather is expected to ease gradually in northern Vietnam from early September and in central regions from the second half of the month.

The weather agency also forecast periods of moderate to heavy rainfall in northern Vietnam, the Thanh Hoa-Hue region, the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam during July and August.

In September, moderate to heavy rainfall could occur across much of the country, forecasters said.
