Seven camping students died at sea

Rescue workers have found the bodies of seven students who went missing during their camping trip in April 30 Beach in HCM City.

Rescue workers early this morning found the bodies of five secondary school students who were among seven going missing during their weekend camping trip in April 30 Beach in HCM City’s Can Gio district. The seven unfortunate were among the 96 students of Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary School in Binh Duong’s Dau Tieng district going camping on December 29.

They went swimming at April 30 Beach and were swept away by high tidal surges.

A male student was found on the afternoon of December 29 and admitted to Can Gio General Hospital. However, he passed away despite doctors’ intensive efforts.   

At 6.30pm, rescue workers found another dead body.

Parents of the victims were present at the beach to identify their children.


Parents of the victims deep in pain

HCM City Fire Brigade, Border Guard and Navy Command officers and staff found the last victims at 5am this morning, December 30.

Huynh Cach Mang, Secretary of the Can Gio District Party Committee, said the local administration provided VND5 million in emergency aid to each family of the victims and is considering additional assistance.
