The smugglers were intercepted on Road 542C in Hung Thong Commune in Hung Nguyen District on Wednesday.
The police stopped the trailer truck driven by Le Van Sang, 37, from Nghe An’s Thanh Chuong District for a check. He was accompanied by Pham Dinh Hieu, 19, in the vehicle.

The police found 2.10 tonnes of ebony wood and 2.50 tonnes of pangolin scales in the trailer storage compartment. The goods were valued at around VND10 billion (USD425,531).
The wood was divided into 29 pieces and pangolin scales were contained in 63 bags.
The two men failed to show paperwork related to the goods. They confessed that they intended to transport the products from Laos to Ha Tinh Province through Cau Treo International Border Gate.
