Vu Thi Tuyet was a single mother with a five-year-old son when she remarried 25 years ago. Her husband whose son was disabled had been abandoned by his wife. Her disabled son-in-law Nhi was just one year old at that time.

Tuyet has been taking care of Nhi for 25 years
Tuyet sold sticky rice at a hospital in District 2, while her husband worked as a motorbike taxi driver.
Nhi faced asthma when he was small, causing him to be repeatedly hospitalised. Tuyet tried all kinds of different jobs to earn money to buy milk for him.
In 2002, Tuyet and her husband divorced. The husband brought Nhi with him. However, just a month later, Tuyet brought Nhi back to live with her as the boy seemed to not be sufficiently looked after by his father.
Nhi could barely walk and speak as normally as other children by the age of 10.

The family is in a very difficult condition
Every day, Nhi stayed at home with his grandmother until his mother earned money by selling sticky rice with a daily income of around VND200,000.
The family’s condition is more difficult when recently Tuyet has suffered from osteoarthritis. Nhi usually helps his mother in selling sticky rice.
Over the past three days, Tuyet’s disease has worsened, so she has had to stay at home. Meanwhile, Tuye’t mother has also been bedridden due to a stroke, adding to the family’s misfortune.
