The first phase, running through June 30, will cover more than 1,267 elderly, disabled and low-income residents, as well as people with meritorious service to the nation. Nearly 600 public officials and armed forces personnel will also receive health checks.

A second phase scheduled for the second half of the year is expected to cover more than 23,000 additional residents.
The programme includes screening for common and chronic illnesses, with free breakfasts provided for elderly, disabled and low-income participants.
Duong Tin Phuc, director of the Military-Civilian Medical Centre of Phu Quy Special Zone, said the facility had largely completed health checks for schoolchildren aged six to 18.
Since the programme began on May 13, health checks have been completed for 4,709 of the island's 5,297 students, or 88.9 per cent of the target, with the remainder expected to be screened next school year.
