An additional 16,725 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Thursday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with over 2,900 patients, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 16,700 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,968), Binh Phuoc (726), Binh Dinh (709), HCM City (701), and Khanh Hoa (677). There were 25 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 634 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,822 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 1,952,594 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (509,501), Binh Duong (291,560), Dong Nai (98,965), Tay Ninh (83,619), and Hanoi (76,438). Vietnam has so far confirmed 34 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,958,719. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 13, an additional 38,943 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,635,899.
On Thursday evening, a further 206 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 35,170. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (19), Dong Thap (30), Vinh Long (14), Hanoi (13), An Giang (11), and Tien Giang (11).
Vietnam on January 12 administered 927,829 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 164.48 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 71.70 million people having received two doses.
