For cleft lips operations, only children of at least 18 months old and weighing over 8kgs are admitted, while cleft palate patients must be at least 18 months old and over 12kgs in weight.

No patients suffering from malnutrition, coughing, fever, heart diseases, diabetes will be eligible for the service.

In Hanoi, the surgery is held at the Vietnam-Cuba Hospital at 37 Hai Ba Trung Street in Hoan Kiem District.

In HCM City it will be given at the HCMC-based National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, at 201A Nguyen Chi Thanh Street in District 5.

Operation Smile’s first Medical Mission to Vietnam took place in 1989 and has provided thousands of free medical procedures to children and young adults in Vietnam since. Apart from giving humanitarian surgeries, it has also provided additional training to Vietnamese medical professionals.

During the past 22 years, it has conducted medical missions in most cities in Vietnam, such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hue, Quang Binh, Thai Nguyen, Bac Thai, Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and Bao Loc.
