Mortar shells found near Quang Ngai home

Police in the central province of Quang Ngai province have secured and safely disposed of 13 wartime mortar shells discovered near a residential property.

Dak Ro Wa Commune police, working with the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre, recovered the unexploded ordnance after a local resident found the items while building an embankment along a stream about 100 metres from his home.

The resident, Huynh Minh Thuong, reportedly brought several suspected mortar rounds back to his house before notifying authorities.

Officers quickly cordoned off the area to ensure public safety. An inspection identified the cache as one 81mm mortar shell, 11 60mm mortar shells and one 60mm phosphorus round.

All items were removed and handled in accordance with technical safety procedures.

Police urged residents who encounter suspected bombs, mines or other explosives to leave them untouched and immediately inform the nearest authorities, warning against moving, dismantling or trading such items.
