Vietnam’s National Competition Commission has received a recall report from Piaggio Vietnam concerning the replacement of components in the front lighting system.
The recall affects 1,063 Vespa and Liberty 125cc scooters manufactured between January and February this year.

Of the more than 1,000 vehicles recalled, the Vespa Sprint 125cc accounts for the largest number at 746 units, followed by the Sprint 150cc with 238, the Primavera 125cc with 53 and the Liberty 125cc with 26 (Photo: Nguyen Lam).
According to Piaggio Vietnam, inspections found that capacitors used in the electronic circuit of the front lighting system, including both low-beam and high-beam headlights, may not meet technical specifications due to a manufacturing issue involving a supplier.
As a result, the low-beam and high-beam headlights on affected vehicles could unexpectedly switch off during operation.
In some cases, the headlight indicator on the instrument panel may also stop functioning.
The defect could reduce visibility and compromise rider safety, particularly when travelling in low-light conditions.
Piaggio Vietnam said the problem affects only a certain proportion of vehicles included in the recall programme. If a scooter was assembled using the defective component, either the low beam, the high beam, or both lights could fail.
The company noted that even if both the low-beam and high-beam headlights stop working, the scooters remain equipped with two front position lights located near the turn signals.
These lights provide enough illumination for riders to recognise the fault and help alert oncoming traffic to the vehicle’s presence.

Owners of Vespa and Liberty 125cc scooters manufactured during the first two months of the year can check their vehicle identification numbers against recall lists published on the websites of the National Competition Commission and Piaggio Vietnam.
Customers whose vehicles are affected are advised to visit the nearest authorised dealer for a free inspection and repair.
The replacement procedure is expected to take approximately 20 minutes per vehicle.
