The cause of the step down was not due to Minh's accrued points, which remain at of 57,236. Instead, other athletes in the top 10 have increased their points after successes at recent tournaments.

Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia is now No 1, followed by Chen Long of China and Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia.

Minh will participate in his first tournament after the Lunar New Year at the Indonesian club competition, Djarum Superliga Badmington 2104, thanks to his membership om Jaya Raya Jakarta.

The event will take place February 3-9 in Jakarta.
