Mimosa Pass reopens after landslide cuts key Dalat-HCM City route

Mimosa Pass reopened to traffic at 6 pm on November 30, ten days after a major landslide severed the Dalat-HCM City route during historic flooding.

The landslide in Xuan Huong-Dalat Ward caused about 100 metres of roadway and embankment to collapse, sending debris plunging tens of metres into a ravine and paralysing traffic.

To restore the route, Project Management Unit 85 under the Ministry of Construction carved a temporary road into the uphill slope, creating a two-lane carriageway with a hot-asphalt surface to ensure safe passage.

Workers completed the section within ten days.

PMU 85 said that besides the temporary route, plans for an elevated bridge across the landslide zone are being prepared and construction is expected to begin in the next three to four months.

Nguyen Hong Thang, a truck driver transporting vegetables from Dalat to HCM City, said the reopening was a relief after days of delays, noting that the landslide forced constant detours and disrupted deliveries.

The temporary stretch spans more than 100 metres with two lanes and a gently curved alignment to improve safety.

Drivers are urged to slow down, follow traffic signs and comply with diversions where repair work continues. They are also advised to avoid the temporary road during heavy rain or at night, and not to stop at the foot of the slope.

The reopening of Mimosa Pass helps meet urgent travel and transport needs and eases pressure on Prenn Pass, which has also suffered landslide damage.
