16 out of 75 foreign channels of pay TV services in Vietnam are licensed for being edited and translated into Vietnamese

At present, only 16 out of 75 foreign channels of pay TV services in Vietnam are licensed for being edited and translated into Vietnamese, according to the Ministry of information and Communications.

According to the Regulation on management of pay-TV, television channels supply by the pay-TV services in Vietnam must be granted the editing license before 15/11/2012.

After this time, the foreign TV channels that do not have the editing license will be not allowed to appear on pay TV systems in Vietnam.

However, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Do Quy Doan said, during the implementation of this regulation, the Ministry found some problems. The Ministry has proposed the Prime Minister to delay the implementation of the regulations for some time.

A specific problem is that there are some news channels like CNN with the news being updated 24/7, so the editing and translation of news is very difficult.

In addition, the TV programme providers do not want Vietnamese partners to make intervention in terms of content in their programmes.

Currently, pay TV service provides such as the Vietnam News Agency, the Vietnam Television and a number of major broadcasters are carrying out the procedures for getting the editing and translation permit of foreign programme.
