
Nong Van Thuc, 54, was arrested by police in Nguyen Binh District on June 3.
Binh was accused of having thrown stones at buses and cars carrying tourists to a temple on Phia Oac Mountain since late 2022. He had also placed stones on the road to the mountain to prevent vehicles from visiting the mountain.

Early this year, Binh attacked a guard who was patrolling at the mountain top.
The man was found and detained while walking down from the mountain at 7pm on May 31. At the police station, he admitted his actions and explained that he just wanted to prevent visitors from coming to the temple.
According to the police, Binh had served a 12-year jail sentence in 1996 for robbery and after being released, he was homeless and lived on the Phia Oac Mountain.
With a height of 1,931 metres, Phia Oac Mountain is a popular tourist destination in Cao Bang Province. Many tourists come here to visit a temple and enjoy the stunning beauty of the clouds.
