Lam Dong ramps up free health screening programme

Lam Dong Province has mobilised additional resources to provide free health screenings for 50 per cent of its population by June 30 as part of a nationwide preventive healthcare programme.

From June 2, communes and wards across the province began offering free health screenings for children under six, while schools worked with hospitals and health centres to provide medical check-ups for students.

According to the provincial Department of Health, hospitals have largely completed preparations in terms of facilities, equipment and personnel, although shortages of specialists remain a challenge.

Lam Dong has allocated an additional VND 200 billion (USD 7.6 million) to provide free health screenings for more than 3.24 million residents this year.

The province aims to screen nearly 1.26 million people by the end of June, with the remainder scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

Hospitals and health centres have been instructed to increase screening teams, deploy staff flexibly and provide services at weekends to meet the target.

Local authorities have also been asked to step up public awareness campaigns and coordinate closely with healthcare facilities to ensure residents can access screening services conveniently.

The programme forms part of broader efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare and improve public health management through regular medical screening and digital health records.
