Coach Park Hang-seo
The information was announced by VFF on October 17.
The VFF earlier proposed to extend the contract so that the South Korean coach would lead Vietnam in the coming Asian Cup 2023 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament. However, negotiations broke down and both sides agreed not to extend the contract beyond the current five years.
The 2022 AFF Cup in December will be Park’s last tournament as head coach of the Vietnamese national football team.
Park said in a statement released by the VFF on Monday that he would always remember his five-year journey with Vietnamese football, describing it as a memorable and exciting journey.
"This decision came from a mutual understanding and the desire for a prosperous future for both parties," the VFF said. "Park will still maintain a close partnership to develop Vietnamese football."
Park began working with the VFF coaching the national team in late 2017. Under his leadership, Vietnamese football had achieved significant successes, finishing second at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, winning the 2018 AFF trophy, winning a place in the quarterfinal of 2019 Asian Cup, taking two SEA Games gold medals in 2019 and 2021, and making the final qualifiers of World Cup for the first time in their history.
Vietnam also held top position in Southeast Asia, and maintained their position as the longest-serving Southeast Asian country in FIFA’s top 100.
The Korean coach twice previously extended his contract with VFF in 2019 and 2021.
