Binh Lap Beach famed for its white sand and blue waters, is facing serious pollution due to rubbish from lobster farming activities.

According to local people, hundreds of lobster cages are being brought to Binh Lap Beach for cleaning every day. After that plastic bags, unusable nets, and clam shells are left at the beach by lobster farmers.

A local woman, Nguyen Thi Be, said that the beach has become ugly and has a bad smell due to the rising amount of waste. "This has seriously affected local residents and visitors," Be said. "The sea is becoming polluted and people are complaining about skin problems when swimming here."

Le Van Toa, 88, said that Binh Lap Beach was still a beautiful clean beach until three years ago when hundreds of lobster farmers around Binh Ba Island started dumping waste. "The beach has been polluted and bad odour has spread to our surrounding residential areas," Toa said.

Speaking about the problems, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Duy Quang, said that they were investigating the situation and dealing with the pollution. "This is the largest lobster farming hub of Khanh Hoa with over 45,000 cages," Quang said.

Meanwhile, chairman of Cam Ranh City People's Committee, Le Ngoc Thach, said that this area does not belong to the local fish farming plan for the 2021-2030 period. "The fish farming activities in this area are illegal and we're considering helping local fish farmers find other jobs," the officials said.
