Thousands of students attend the launching of HCM City annual voluntary campaign on July 19.

They have been divided into nine groups to launch a large number of social and humanitarian activities across the southern city and throughout 12 neighbouring provinces, Phu Quy Island district in central Binh Thuan province, as well as a number of provinces in Laos.

Running until August 16, the programme includes communications campaigns on environmental protection, traffic safety and building a civilised society and technical transfer to farmers.

The students will deliver scholarships and gifts to disadvantaged students, provide free health care services to the needy and build transport works in rural areas.

The campaign sets the goal of paving 40km of cement roads and upgrading ten bridges in rural areas, dredging eight canals and fixing electricity problems for 1,000 poor households as well as a number of other significant projects.

According to Pham Hong Son, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, this year’s summer campaign will be closely co-ordinated with other ongoing social projects to expand the positive benefits for local communities.
