
After nearly 10 years of construction, the project to upgrade the drainage system of the Hang Bang Canal in districts 5 and 6 has not yet been completed.

The site clearance on a road section from Pham Dinh Ho to Chu Van An streets in District 6 has not yet been finished.

Over the past ten years, the foul-smelling water from the canal has impacted local residents. It is easy to see the water full of rubbish along Bai Say Road in District 6.

A house on Phan Van Khoe Street in District 6 is struggling with rubbish.

When it is sunny, the smell from the canal becomes terrible, said Ha Tuy Tuong, 85, said, adding that his family had to use different ways to mitigate the air pollution.

The second phase of the project is underway but has progressed at a snail’s pace due to site clearance difficulties. The site clearance has affected as many as 344 houses in District 6. However, they disagreed with the low compensation offered.

The first phase of the project has been completed with the construction of a park. The second and third phases have still been slowed l by site clearance issues.
